Treatment of amputees

In preparation for his doctoral dissertation, Bill researched, interviewed and worked with amputees, their partners and family. While both vascular and traumatic amputations are traumatic, amputees can fully recover and lead productive lives.

Paralysis clients, persons with either acute or chronic disabling illness, as well as severe workplace injuries, have problems and issues similar to those affected with amputation. Successful treatment of this population's best rendered immediately after medical stabilization.

Post traumatic stress disorder

Bill's doctoral research and post doctoral clinical experience involved work with amputees - and others - who experienced trauma.

Most trauma survivors treated by Bill experienced trauma as a result of a vehicle or work accident. Most involved physical injury, from moderate to severe, which may be impairing in nature. Others were in acutely life threatening situations, or experienced the death of others in the trauma.

Those who had prior depression or anxiety states often have another episode precipitated by the trauma.

Individual treatment, often in conjunction with an educational component, is used to assist patients with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
